Schendel and Sullivan Shoes is the result of a wonderful partnership between Paul Schendel and Delores Sullivan. Delores already owned and operated a successful women’s clothing store in Southampton - Sisters on Huron, and Paul also had a thriving countertop business – Infinite Surfaces. When they formed a partnership outside of work, they began to look for an entrepreneurial project that would combine all of their talents. They found an old general store and used Paul’s design and construction skills to renovate it in the style of a high end New York shoe store. The concept was to keep the entire inventory on the floor so that staff was always available to assist the clientele. The result is a clean modern look that showcases the beauty of the shoes, purses and belts.
Paul does the majority of the buying for the store. He has developed an appreciation for what looks good on each particular woman’s foot as well as a talent for understanding the proper fit. This gift seems to come from his mother, who while over 90, still wears 2” heels and has become an excellent spokeswoman and customer of the store. Delores is responsible for the merchandising and displays in the store and eye catching window fronts.
It is a partnership of two strong individuals with great entrepreneurial spirit that has resulted in a shoe store that outsells most urban centre stores. |
